The Tree House beers Kia Ora and Haere Ra were both New Zealand beers in the truest sense because they contained all New Zealand-grown ingredients. And so our journey brought us next to @gladfieldmalt. Gladfield Malt, established by Doug and Gabi Michael in 2004, is a 100% family-owned maltings. The Michaels are a fifth-generation family of barley growers in the heart of the Canterbury Plains. They describe their malthouse as “New Zealand Craft Malts for Passionate Brewers.” That’s right up our alley. So, we worked arduously with the FDA to become the only brewery to importing Gladfield’s singular malts into the United States. Upon our arrival, we were struck immediately by Gabi’s Kiwi hospitality. In their office, we sampled dozens of unique malts, including Manuka Smoked Malt, Toffee Malt, Supernova Malt, Shepherds Delight Malt, and more. Following our time sampling malt, Doug Michaels himself gave us a gracious and extensive tour of the malting facility. It was clear from the moment we met Doug that he is ingrained in every facet of the malting process and has a deep passion for producing high-quality and distinctive malts. He was gracious with his time and shared the history and energy behind Gladfield. Doug shared that they are on the path to becoming carbon neutral and that the facility works directly with one hundred and fifty farmers in the Canterbury Plains. Following our facility tour, we were welcomed into Doug and Gabi’s home, where we enjoyed a delicious lunch and Gabi’s tasty homebrew! Upon leaving Gladfield, we felt a deeper connection to the beers we make with their malt and a memory that will energize our brewing endeavors for years to come. We are working on the next batches of beer made with these distinctive malts, and we hope you can appreciate the care and attention that goes into each of them, not only from Tree House but everyone in our supplier network.

Curiosity One Hundred Forty-One is a dynamic expression of Nelson Sauvin hops sourced from our favorite hop farms in the land of the long white cloud. These beers enable us to experiment with process to connect the dots between how hops express themselves out in the field vs how they present in a finished beer. Here, we use our newer approach to post-boil hopping to create a more rounded expression of this edy hop. Pouring a glowing yellow color into your glass, it carries notes of passion fruit, melon, sweet citrus, and mango with a clean finish. We have learned so much making this beer and hope you enjoy it as much as we do. #productphotography #productphotodaily #photography #craftbeer #treehousebrewing #beergram #beerstagram #beersandcameras #beerlover #beerbeerbeer #beerme #beergeek #beertography #beernerd #fujifilm #gfx100II @fujifilmx_us @profoto

Today, we are pleased to introduce a new Barleywine many years in the making: Tree of Fire. 🔥 Tree Of Fire is a smoked barleywine brewed utilizing a distinct hickory-smoked malt from our friends at Blue Ox Malthouse in Maine and blended with select bourbon barrel-aged barleywine barrels aged 12-24 months. The singular hickory smoke takes us on a sensory journey as rich caramel and toasty malt notes intertwine, leading to flavors reminiscent of brown sugar and chewy molasses cookies with a hint of vanilla-soaked bourbon on the finish. A distinct savory note genuinely distinguishes this barleywine from any other. Each sip reveals undercurrents of milk chocolate, adding depth to this indulgent barleywine. As you savor Tree of Fire, we hope you embrace the nostalgia of evenings spent with friends around the campfire as the smokey essence of hickory lingers, inviting you to savor every moment. This beer will age gracefully stored cold for up to five years. #productphotography #productphotodaily #photography #craftbeer #treehousebrewing #beergram #beerstagram #beersandcameras #beerlover #beerbeerbeer #beerme #beergeek #beertography #beernerd #fujifilm #gfx100II @fujifilmx_us @profoto
Today, we are pleased to introduce a new entry in our Many Ways series featuring Galaxy. The magic of terroir—the environmental conditions, especially soil and climate, in which hops are grown and give a hop their unique flavor and aroma—continues to enthrall us at Tree House. The Many Ways series sheds light on this magic. For this rendition, we’ve taken bucket loads of Galaxy grown exclusively by our friends at Hop Products Australia in their Tasmanian hop garden, Bushy Park Estates. Bushy Park Estates has a storied hop-growing lineage stretching back over 150 years. This reliability produces incredible Galaxy, showcased here with underripe pineapple, lemon-lime, and earthy citrus notes, with a tongue-coating tropical hop oil finish. Tasmania stands as a beacon of untamed beauty in an increasingly clustered world. With clean air, cold ocean breezes, and ancient forests, it’s a bit like the land before time. We hope you enjoy this little expression of this special place as much as we do. . . . The legendary Text Kiln, built by Ebenezer Shoobridge in 1867, is pictured on the label. It remained in service until recently, when it was decommissioned and restored as a historical beacon of Tasmania's storied hop-growing past. #productphotography #productphotodaily #photography #craftbeer #treehousebrewing #beergram #beerstagram #beersandcameras #beerlover #beerbeerbeer #beerme #beergeek #beertography #beernerd #fujifilm #gfx100II @fujifilmx_us @profoto

New Zealand is the Land of the Dark Night Sky. For the next stop on our journey, the Tree House hop selection team set aside an evening in Lake Tekapo to experience the grandeur of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest dark sky reserve and gain a deeper understanding of the inspiration for many of our beers. The dark-sky reserve accreditation recognizes that the night skies in the area of the reserve are entirely free of light pollution and ideal for star-gazing. For longtime Tree House fans, it’s no secret that the night sky has enthralled us and inspired some of our earliest beers. The Universe is Indifferent, Nervous Energy, Space & Time, Deep Space, Andromeda, Eternity, Persist, Spacetime Continuum, Spiritual Unrest, Acadia Nights, In Perpetuity, Brighter Than Starlight, and so many more have a celestial edge thanks to this fascination. So, you can imagine our excitement to find ourselves in such a special place. Fortunately, we were gifted the perfect sky-gazing night, free of humidity and clouds. But there was a catch - the moon was in a waxing gibbous phase, meaning it was two-thirds full. The only thing that can spoil the darkness of this night sky is such a bright moon. Some of the images in the carousel show the moon so bright it renders almost as brightly as daylight. The Milky Way was barely visible, so we waited. And waited, And waited. By 2 AM, following moonset,we were awash in a sky so clear with the celestial heavens above it was almost unbelievable. The Milky Way revealed itself across the sky above us, a majestic canvas so vibrant it felt within reach. For that fleeting moment, we were linked to an unknown past while affirming the preciousness and precariousness of our existence here. Like a solar eclipse, it would be impossible to capture this experience with photographs, but we did our best here. This space, specifically, inspired our two beers Land of the Dark Night Sky and Don’t Be Afraid. We hope you enjoy the images (swipe right - we saved the best for last) as much as we enjoyed making them and the beer to accompany them.
It’s that day. ☀️ #gosox
The last little surprise of the day is a number we have called Speedy! Speedy is a descendant of Turbo and is an epic melting pot of the legendary Cascade hop. Speedy pours a beautiful pale yellow with a frothy white foam cap. It utilized multiple Cascade varieties from three different countries throughout its time in the kettle and fermenter and now in these cans. High Oil Cascade from Segal Ranch in Washington, New Zealand Cascade from Freestyle in Upper Moutere, and Australian Cascade from the faraway place of Tasmania impart strong and complex notes of orange candies, grapefruit peel, lemon-lime, and tropical fruit. This unique and singular expression of Cascade and distills years of relationship-building and distant travel searching for the best expressions. We are pumped to release it just in time for the spring marathon season!

Our home base camp during our visit to @garstonhops was the adventure capital of the world, Queenstown. Queenstown is nestled between towering peaks on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and carries astonishing natural beauty in every direction you look. Sitting just forty miles north of Garston, Queenstown is the launchpad for outdoor excursions of all shapes and sizes in the South Island. It is a bustling and dynamic blend of tourists, backpackers, adventure enthusiasts, digital nomads, new residents, and long-time locals. It would be impossible to find boredom in Queenstown; you can do anything from bungee jumping to having a cocktail in an ice bar to taking in a circus show at the lakeside. The downtown area is a culinary melting pot, and you can enjoy anything from a fresh seafood dinner to the iconic Fergburger, a must-try burger joint for all Queenstown visitors. We were treated to our first beer of the trip—a crushable, hazy Pale Ale from Altitude Brewing called Sled Dog—at the Atlas Beer Cafe, a bustling, cozy escape on the docks of Lake Wakatipu. With a huge variety of New Zealand-made beers on tap and a host of friendly locals, this pub was exactly what we needed after a whirlwind pair of travel days. Upon departing the city for hoppier pastures, we were greeted by an incredible view of the valley below from an exceptional vantage point at the top of the iconic Crown Range Road. A refreshing, fresh Julius in hand made the moment all the more memorable. Also, on the first part of this road to Nelson, we passed the historic Cardona Hotel, made a quick pit stop at the Cardrona Distillery, and enjoyed a few moments of Zen with the iconic Wanaka Tree (which you may be familiar with from the label of Unity, our all Nelson Sauvin Pale Ale). The journey to Nelson continues only after a pit stop at Mount Cook, @gladfieldmalt, and a scenic drive along the coast through Kaikurou. Stay tuned, and drink well.
It’s National Beer Day weekend. Let’s celebrate together!

Magic in the Sky is a pale ale brewed with Nelson, Riwaka, Motueka, and Cascade, grown by our friends at Garston, Freestyle, and Eggers hops in the South Island of New Zealand. It pours a vibrant yellow color into your glass and carries notes of passion fruit, pineapple, and orange juice with a firm and thirst-quenching bitterness. Pale ales like this represent everything we love about the current iteration of Tree House— sublime hop saturation paired with ease of drinkability. Enjoy! #productphotography #productphotodaily #photography #craftbeer #treehousebrewing #beergram #beerstagram #beersandcameras #beerlover #beerbeerbeer #beerme #beergeek #beertography #beernerd #fujifilm #gfx100II @fujifilmx_us @profoto
The Desire To Be Real features what we describe as the god combo of hops: Citra, Nelson, and Galaxy. At Tree House, we have rarely combined the three; here, they are layered into this beer in waves through a new whirlpool hopping process. Pouring a beautiful hazy color into your glass, The Desire To Be Real features the best expression of each hop, with the late harvest tropical notes punching through from Nelson and the expressive orange juice character found in Oregon Citra. Additionally, Galaxy from Victoria shines brightly with ripe pineapple and lemon-lime character to bring it all home. The Desire To Be Real combines everything we have learned about hops' regional character in the most expressive and bright way we are capable of. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. #productphotography #productphotodaily #photography #craftbeer #treehousebrewing #beergram #beerstagram #beersandcameras #beerlover #beerbeerbeer #beerme #beergeek #beertography #beernerd #fujifilm #gfx100II @fujifilmx_us @profoto

This is Ross. Ross is an aircraft mechanic, mega rugby fan, and dedicated homebrewer and distiller. The hop selection team made a stop into his ‘Westie Brauhaus’ in West Melton New Zealand following a morning at Gladfield Malt and en route to Upper Moutere to taste his home brew and to say hello. Tree House’s homebrew history is extensive. It’s mostly unknown that Tree House operated as a commercial nano-brewery on a ten-gallon setup for almost a year. That bootstrapped mentality and the passion for our craft that comes with it continues to energize us to this day. It was with great delight that we had a window to visit Ross’ homebrew shed! This visit was part of an ongoing YouTube series where we randomly chose ten out of five hundred brewers to send their beer in to be tasted on the channel. Ross, who resides in West Melton, New Zealand, was selected to send in his beer. But here’s where the story gets good - West Melton was right on our planned route from Garston Hops to the Nelson region, and stopping by would work in our ambitious itinerary! So, 10,000 miles from home, we connected and tasted Ross’s American Pale Ale and Hazy IPA in person! We also enjoyed crawfish, House-made goat milk feta, native honey, House-made Gin, and some good old-fashioned New Zealand hospitality. We gifted Ross a can of Harmony on the way out, and to our delight he shared images of a bike trip to Mount Cook where he enjoyed a Harmony in the very place represented on a label. How cool is that? We’ve linked the video in today’s story. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed this chapter of the trip! Thanks, Ross! #homebrewing #craftbeer
A story in contrasts. It’s cool out there but warm in here! Extra cozy in our taprooms today as we enjoy winter’s last grasp. It’s certain to be a great evening to visit in advance of the weekend rush.
