Trail

Trail is our German-style Pilsner. Featuring floor-malted barley and carefully selected European noble hops, Trail is lagered for an extended period of time. The resulting beer is crisp, snappy, and robustly flavored such that you can easily imagine enjoying it in the German countryside.

Every once in a while, a beer comes around that legitimately means the world to us. A beer we have been dreaming of making for over a decade. Chasing and hoping. We are honored to be the first American brewery to use whole-cone Galaxy hops straight from Australia. That's right, baled, freshly kilned whole-cone Galaxy, from the fields of Rostrevor to our coolers in Charlton, Massachusetts. With this limited stock, we decided that Trail was, of course, the perfect template for this incredible treat. They flood the nose with ripe pineapple, sweet guava, and bright passionfruit on top of a zippy, completely crushable base beer. It's mild, elegant, and uniquely expressive. Even with the sophisticated harvest and pelletizing capabilities of our favorite farms, whole-cone hops still have something special. The volatile oils, lupulin, and resinous character are on full display when you use hops in their whole-cone form. This beer perfectly captures the striking duality of a blast of hops fit for an IPA that fades into a crushable Lager base. We hope you get to try this one. It will not last long.

A two Trail day might be the best kinda day. Our favorite German Pilsner meets a new hop. German Lily hops continue to blow our minds with their intersection of New and Old World flavors. They carry a wonderful bitter bite, but with intense fruity flavors you might normally find in a New Zealand variety. Floating above a zippy Pilsner base are notes of gooseberry, tangerine, and red berries. It’s funny to think about, but German Pilsners once held the title of “hoppy beer”, at least among their European counterparts. Almost like a mirror image of the Helles’ ability to be malty yet crisp, the German Pils is supercharged with noble hop aroma, creating a thirst-quenching, dry snappiness. Our series of dry-hopped Trail puts a modern spin on a style built for a splash of hoppy character.

Trail, our classic German Pilsner, gets a hoppy addition of hand-selected Simcoe. Poured vigorously, it catapults a wave of foam above the glass, carrying a hoppy bouquet over its super crisp body. Simcoe really is a symbol of the era in which it was released, 2000, to be exact. It walks the line between old-school West Coast notes of dank hop yards and citrus pine, while foreshadowing the juice movement with notes of stone fruit and mixed tropical fruits. The perfect hop for a classic lager with a hoppy modern twist. If happiness could be canned, this is what it would taste like.

We diverted a small portion of our recent batch of Trail to a tank loaded with Wai-iti hops. Following a lengthy conditioning, it is as bright, juicy, and aromatic as they come. As the mountains of foam settle into a sticky lace in your glass, notes of citrus zest, floral peach, and juicy apricot rise into the air. We are New Zealand hop fanatics, but even for those of you following our Southern Hemisphere series closely, you may have missed this rare hop. We’ve used it in blends before, but never showcased it on its own. When we want a clear expression of a hop’s range, there are few better ways than placing it neatly upon the canvas of a clean Pilsner. Beers like this are truly educational; they're an unadulterated expression of hoppiness. It is just awesome.

Wanderer and Trail on back-to-back days is just magnificent. Trail is our German Pilsner, a crisp, zippy, and traditionally hopped lager. We’ve been making this Lager longer than any other, and our technique when brewing and lagering it continues to gather nuance, ever refining its refreshing profile. It would be impossible to overstate the time, energy, and care that go into a single batch. Have you heard of “trail magic,” the term Trail’s name nods to? When on the Appalachian Trail or hiking the Pacific Northwest Trail, there are all sorts of kindnesses you stumble upon: a ride into town, fresh socks, food for hikers with bottomless stomachs. But by far the best thing you can feast your eyes on when turning a corner is a cooler of ice-cold beer left by some angel in a nearby town. When the days are measured in miles, this is the beer we would have been dreaming about. Trail is a reminder that the little things mean a great deal, especially when you least expect them.

Meander is a brewer's favorite through and through. Our native water profile shines in this stunningly dry interpretation of our zippy German Pilsner, Trail. Dry, crushable, characterful, and fresh. Our obsession with German beer is a lifelong exercise in refinement and patience. Craft is a living art and must be practiced. To that end, we're delightedly pleased with Meander, but we maintain that we have much to learn. #productphotography #productphotodaily #photography #craftbeer #treehousebrewing #beergram #beerstagram #beersandcameras #beerlover #beerbeerbeer #beerme #beergeek #beertography #beernerd #fujifilm #gfx100II @fujifilmx_us @profoto

German Pilsners do not shy away from hops. For this version of Trail, in lieu of noble hoppy spice, we dry-hopped with a Southern Hemisphere gem, Nelson. On top of a totally crushable and clean base, notes of white grape and passionfruit burst atop its classic sticky lacing! It's a beautifully balanced beer. #productphotography #productphotodaily #photography #craftbeer #treehousebrewing #beergram #beerstagram #beersandcameras #beerlover #beerbeerbeer #beerme #beergeek #beertography #beernerd #fujifilm #gfx100II @fujifilmx_us @profoto

The cellar team at Tree House works arduously and passionately to develop and steward our classic beers through their lifespan in our cellar. To that end, here we are Magic Trail, a rendition of Trail that spent three months conditioning in our horizontal stainless cellar. The beer in this can results from Tree House’s extensive travel in pursuit of the best, most unique expressions of our favorite hops. The hops utilized in this iteration of Trail originate from Elk Mountain Farm, one of the most prolific hop producers globally, located in northernmost Idaho. This geographic location imparts a singular taste of place, an Amarillo expression like no other grown in the world. We hope you enjoy this version of Trail as much as we did making it. #productphotography #productphotodaily #photography #craftbeer #treehousebrewing #beergram #beerstagram #beersandcameras #beerlover #beerbeerbeer #beerme #beergeek #beertography #beernerd #fujifilm #gfx100II @fujifilmx_us @profoto

We were in love with Pink the first time we tried it, and this batch of Trail absolutely drives it home for us. As we have evolved and matured as a brewery, we have traveled extensively to discover and impart novel experiences in our beer. There is no other beer like this on the market. We selected and shipped a premium harvest of Pink directly to Charlton, the only wet-hopped Pink beer on the East Coast and only the second in the country. This batch of Trail is a triumph, with incredible notes of strawberry jam, raspberry, and zebra bubblegum. You will have difficulty believing no adjuncts were added to this beer. It has a mind-blowing flavor profile. It is that special. We hope you will have a chance to try it.

Our enthusiasm for this release of Trail is palpable!

Our enthusiasm for this release of Trail is palpable! This beer came about by chance. Brewed with the first lot of Cascade hops grown by Garston Hops to be utilized outside of New Zealand, it pops with a unique character that is entirely a function of the location in which they are grown. Nestled amidst the tranquil seclusion of the South Island's verdant hills in New Zealand, Garston Hops @garstonhops farm is an enclave, separated by hundreds of miles from its nearest hop-growing counterpart. The isolation lends these Cascade hops an unparalleled taste profile, making this brew a genuinely singular experience. These Cascade leap out of the glass with notes of white wine, red grapefruit, and lemonpeel across a supple and thirst-quenching texture. We hope you are able to enjoy this wonderful experience and reflect upon the effort, energy, and people who went into making it a reality.
