Made entirely with flaked corn and malt from our friends at Thrall Family Malt in north-central Connecticut, House boldly holds to tradition in a sea of beers that invite innovation and genre-bending experimentation. Our travels to distant lands in search of understanding hop growers inform so much of what we do. Our passion for photography also graces our work in many places. A trip up Quandary Peak, which towers high above Billy Goat Hop farm, produced the image on the can for Trail Billy Goat Cascade. An image of the Oregon coast, just adjacent to the green hop fields of the Willamette Valley, hugs ‘Nothing For Granted.’ A stay at Lake Tekapo gave us the vibrant image of the Milky Way on the ‘Land of the Dark Night Sky.’ And the list goes on. This year, we snapped the picture adorning this special release the day after selecting hops with our friends in Garston, in the Southland of New Zealand. The legendary Brewster Hut towers high above the valley and shelters weary hikers on their way across the ridge, to the glaciers, and beyond. Brewster Hut is a true ‘New Zealand IPA’ inspired by the trip’s events. In America, we have Citra + Mosaic. In New Zealand, the most popular hop combination is Nelson & Rakau. We'd like you to try our saison, Luthier. Craftsmanship is a word that carries a deep undercurrent of meaning for us. It guides us in all that we do, and we celebrate all those who do things the hard way and the right way. We're a musical bunch, and we can't help seeing the parallels between turning wood into music and our transformation of grain into beer. Luthier is a Belgian saison crafted with history and simplicity in mind. Pouring a straw yellow, Belgian malts and a classic yeast strain fill the air with notes of bread crust, clove, and hints of black pepper. We use maple extensively across our lineup, but few beers hit as hard as Persist. Here, we combine barrel-aged maple stout with fresh maple stout to achieve the perfect balance of bourbon-forward character offset by fresh maple sweetness. The resulting blend is 60% barrel-aged and 40% fresh stout. For good measure, we finish it on freshly roasted coffee.
