One of our founding principles at Tree House articulated thirteen years ago, is that ‘if we can’t make it better, we won’t do it.’ This guiding principle embodies a striving mentality that helps us maintain a beginner’s mindset and a creative drive to honor tradition while pushing toward an exciting and invigorating future. It’s no secret that we have poured our hearts into our classic-style program, which now features dozens of traditional beers in the regular rotation with a heavy sprinkling of modernity and innovation. With this in mind, it was a delight to see a Tree House team member from each location travel to the Czech Republic this winter to participate in the @lukr.cz Perfect Pour Academy and immerse themselves in an influential beer culture. In their words, “LUKR believes that brewing great beer is only part of the success. The brewmaster brews the beer, but the tapster makes it. Our goal is to preserve, develop, and spread this craft so that there are as many places as possible where you can get perfectly poured draft beer.” We can proudly say that this Tree House team was the biggest graduating class in the academy’s short history. These images capture the trip’s energy, further fleshed out in a short film now featured on our YouTube channel. We encourage you to check it out in its entirety, as it is both informational and enlightening. A beer’s true value is not the extent to which its flavor profile knocks your socks off with a single sip but the joy it brings you when you drink it time and time again. Rest assured, our traditional offerings and hoppy beer share the same obsessive attention to detail. Thank you. For the second part of our visit to Freestyle Hops, we ventured through their picking plant, kiln, drying floor, and pelletizing plant. A unique and highly valuable attribute of Freestyle’s workflow is that it foregoes the baling step in favor of instant pelletization. It is the only farm in the world we know that pelletizes directly. This approach eliminates any objective oxidation occurring during the baling step at other facilities. That is not to say that this oxidation is excessive and harmful at other facilities, it just means that Freestyle, like Tree House, is obsessed with eliminating any variables that could constitute objective harm to their products, even at the expense of efficiency. Certain growers just have it. And “it” is a relentless obsession with unlocking little mysteries that result in incremental quality improvements over time, even if it’s exponentially more difficult or expensive to do so. In these images, you’ll enjoy the same scenes we were able to experience in person. The Peacharine in the pellet plant that day was air-freighted to Tree House and found its way into our beer within a week of these images. If you have not tried the current crop of Peacharine beers, we strongly recommend doing so.

Right Place is an oak-conditioned rendition of our Czech-style lager, Shipshape. Upon the conclusion of primary fermentation, it is transferred to horizontal oak for further maturation until the flavor profile exhibits peak balance and enjoyability. We taste straw, bready malts, noble hops, and mild lemon, all softened by a gentle oak character throughout the experience. Beers like Right Place represent the best of our efforts at Tree House.
