Visiting Clayton Hops on the South Island of New Zealand was a genuine adventure. To travel from Blue Rock Hop Farm to Battery Hill, you don’t just drive—you ford through the river. And this isn’t just a stream but a wide, large river that cuts between two parcels of pristine farmland. You could choose to take the longer, forty-minute detour around the mountainside, but where’s the fun in that? If the name “Bright Fine Gold” rings a bell, it should. This beloved beer was brewed as a tribute to the very river you’d cross, the Wangapeka, famously mentioned in the New Zealand folk song of the same name. It’s a drink inspired by adventure, tradition, and the untamed beauty of this region. The farm is run by Brian, Glen, and Andrew Clayton—three brothers who know this land like the back of their hands. “The Clayton family has been farming in New Zealand for generations,” they explain. “While we spent years chasing adventure and professional careers across the globe, coming home was always inevitable. When we took the leap and purchased this facility at the height of COVID, this is exactly the type of community event we envisioned. It was so fulfilling to see it in action. We've found an elusive Yellow Lady Slipper. Yellow Lady Slipper is a Tree House-style IPA brewed with our Juice Project process, in which we save the bulk of the aggressive hop-dosing for the cold side of the brewing process. This lends a soft bitterness and intense hop saturation. Featuring concentrated Strata pellets and a complementary dose of Elk Mountain Amarillo and PNW Citra, Yellow Lady Slipper is overflowing with hop goodness without an overly aggressive finish. Tomorrow, in honor of Side Project’s participation in our October in the Field celebration, we are thrilled to debut TreeSide. TreeSide is a barrel-aged stout thoughtfully constructed by the specialty beer team at Tree House with insight and participation from Cory King of @sideprojectbrew in St. Louis, Missouri. In late August we curated a selection of various stout barrels, aging in and around the two year mark, to be used for a blending session. Upon tasting, Cory focused on barrels that carried rich fudgy and cocoa dust notes, while the Tree House team selected barrels offering roundness and complexity. The resulting blend is a novel expression of barrel threads from the Tree House archive, greatly enhanced by Cory’s touch. TreeSide is greater than the sum of its parts, thanks to the combined expertise of both breweries. TreeSide will be available tomorrow in limited quantities to-go in all Massachusetts locations. There will be availability for attendees of October in the Field for walk-up purchases to start each of the weekend’s sessions, but we cannot guarantee availability all weekend.

We can't promise the availability of their wares throughout all sessions nor for every patron, but we will reserve a small amount at the start of each session on a first-come, first-served basis.
