We dug deep into the archives - all the way back to Curiosity Fifteen - to inspire this beer. Featuring high-oil Cascade, Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial, Real Sticky is a vintage, dank American IPA that makes no apologies as it coats your palate with sticky hop goodness. Real Sticky pours a beautiful, clean orange color into your glass. It carries notes of pineapple, orange juice, pine, and sticky cannabis with a firm but ephemeral bitterness. Crisp, crushable, and resinous, this is a beautiful beer! More to come.

We’re celebrating three years of @treehousedistillery with a new product and a new service. First, the new product. It’s called Absinthe Verte and it’s absolutely wonderful. Shrouded in mystery and intrigue, our Absinthe Verte is the culmination of years of patient study and devoted experimentation. A classical style of Absinthe, its remarkable complexity comes from the use of star anise, wormwood, fennel, mint, hyssop, veronica, basil, tarragon, melissa, sweet woodruff, and hops. The spirit itself is so dynamic and complex, both in its history and drinking culture–we’ve decided to contrast it’s contents with a simple Impressionist print on the label. If you are unfamiliar, there is a beautiful ritual involved in the enjoyment of Absinthe. Part visual spectacle, part gustatory necessity, the proper preparation of Absinthe involves slowly adding ice water to a glass of Absinthe to conjure the famous Louche. The louche is the opalescent clouding effect that takes place in the glass when the essential oils, normally soluble in alcohol, begin to fall out of solution and appear a milky white as the amount of water increases. This spectral effect has earned Absinthe the moniker of La Fée Verte, or in English, The Green Fairy. No mere magic trick, the dilution of Absinthe is crucial to its enjoyment as many of the flavors are lost (or rather, undiscovered) if imbibed at full strength. One final note: Traditionally, drinkers would dissolve sugar into Absinthe to suit their tastes; however, the anethole found in anise has a remarkable, palate-beguiling power of tricking your senses into thinking it is sweet when diluted. This is thanks to the anethole found in anise that measures roughly 13 times sweeter than sugar! Sweeten if you must, but for a pure experience, skip the cube. #absinthe

In New Zealand, only a few major roads traverse the islands, each with a very different appearance. Following our visit to @gladfieldmalt, we had a choice: take the Lewis Pass or follow the coast to our final destination in Nelson for our second phase of hop selection. For this journey we decided to take the coast and visit Kaikoura once again to take in the place that inspired the Tree House beer ‘Kaikoura Tasmania’. Kaikoura is stunningly beautiful, like something out of an AI image generator, but it’s real life. Snow-capped mountains provide a back drop for a tropical surf town in a way that seems impossible. Verdant greens give way to granite grays and finally the hue of freshly fallen snow. The contrast between lush and inhospitable is as beautiful as it is humbling. You may recall Kaikoura from the news a few years back. On the night of November 14, 2016, the serene coastal town was hit by a ferocious 7.8 magnitude earthquake. In seconds, the seabed lifted dramatically (almost 20 feet in some areas), permanently altering marine habitats and displacing countless species. The local economy, heavily reliant on eco-tourism and famed for its whale-watching expeditions, found itself in ruins overnight. Everywhere you look there are stark reminders of this traumatic event, but Kaikoura has shown remarkable resilience and rebounded. Marine life has adapted to it’s new surroundings and the healing process is well underway. It is that resilience that inspires us to focus intently on our work and to honor this marvelous place and it’s people in the best way possible. Our time in Kaikoura was brief, but it’s impact was eternal. Following a quick dinner and even quicker breakfast, we were back on the road. As you’ll see in the carousel, we enjoyed a few Tree House beverages en route, met a couple of blokes happy to observe us fishing our drone out of a tree, and took in the utterly stunning beauty of the east coast of south island of New Zealand. Next stop: Wine country.
