Surfcaster is a Belgian-style Witbier brewed with unmalted wheat, Belgian pilsner malt, bitter orange peel, freshly ground Indian coriander, Saaz hops, and a kiss of Citra hops. We taste doughy malts, zesty spice, and Belgian yeast carried by a strong overtone of citrus.
Earlier this week we dropped our Belgian Witbier, Surfcaster, but unbeknownst to you, we snuck away a portion of the transfer, and it's been conditioning on orange purée! This crispy, silky-smooth wheat beer pops with notes of noble spice, a hint of coriander, and a kiss of Citra hops that get a secondary citrus burst from the real deal. Season of wheat. Summer lovin'. 🌾🌾🌾
Surfcaster is our Belgian Witbier that we can't seem to make enough of when the weather warms. It's soft, silky, and has a pop of citrus from a thoughtful dose of Citra hops. 🌊☁️🍊 Wheat beers might be the most approachable style in the world of beer. They're an introduction to body, texture, and creaminess that never loses its charm, even for those well acquainted with it. Keep 'em cold and enjoy 'em liberarlly
Surfcaster is our entry into the world of Belgian-style witbiers, hands down one of the most refreshing and approachable beer styles. Silky wheat is met with gentle additions of orange peel and coriander, rounded out with a modern twist, a kiss of Citra to further boost its soft citrus aromatics. Modern brewing would look very different without historical wheat beers. A precursor to the hazy movement was the “White IPA,” a wheat-heavy, cloudy melding of smooth-bodied, hop-forward beers. There’s one brewer in particular we can thank for the revival of styles like Belgian witbiers: Pierre Celis. A former milkman, he began his story in a very familiar setting, homebrewing the kind of beer he wanted to drink in a barn on his property. These cloudy, spiced beers made with local ingredients took off, reigniting interest in what had become a nearly forgotten style of pure refreshment. Not only did this legend help spark renewed interest in Europe’s historically minded beer culture, but he also moved to the U.S. in the 1990s and built a brewery in Austin, where he deeply influenced the next generation of brewers.
