Strange Tide is a Double IPA featuring Nelson, Rakau, Citra, and Simcoe hops. It bursts with aromas of lime hard candies, crushed white grapes, mandarin oranges, and piney mango. As New Englanders, the sea is close to our hearts; building a location that fits into the landscape of Cape Cod has been a dream of ours from the very beginning.
We were welcomed by Derek Macara (@dmacara) to his studio near Provincetown while he worked on the painting for Strange Tide, our Double IPA brewed with Nelson, Rakau, Citra, and Simcoe. Derek grew up on Cape Cod and spent years working as a fisherman. He knows the water, the weather, and the light of the Cape firsthand, and it shows in his paintings. These photos are from that afternoon in the studio, where you can see the work in progress, concluding with a few images of the finished painting at home in our Sandwich taproom. We were delighted to put Derek's work on Strange Tide - available now and for a limited time at Tree House.
Strange Tide is a Double IPA featuring Nelson, Rakau, Citra, and Simcoe hops. It bursts with aromas of lime hard candies, crushed white grapes, mandarin oranges, and piney mango. The sea has sustained New England and the Cape for centuries. We're proud to draw on that energy. The ocean can impart a deep sense of peace while sending us down an existential rabbit hole. How strange to feel timeless and know you are finite. To channel these feelings, we turned to Derek Macara (@dmacara), a Cape Cod native and former fisherman-turned-painter whose work has earned worldwide praise for capturing the many moods of the sea. In his hypnotic Instagram videos, a blank canvas becomes a wash of color and towering clouds, then crystallizes into a shoreline you swear you've stood on. A painting is a strange thing too. Dried pigment on canvas, fixed forever, and somehow the life in it keeps moving in perpetuity. Standing in front of Derek's work, we felt the same peace and slight sense of unease the ocean gives us. A Strange Tide, indeed.
